Services for people with learning needs

Riverside provides specialist services for people with learning disabilities to live independently in the heart of their community. We help overcome any barriers standing in the way of independent living by providing housing arrangements, care and support solutions on an individual basis.

Our housing includes specially adapted houses and flats as well as clustered accommodation. Some have been commissioned by local authorities or hospitals. Additionally, we support individuals and their families to build and convert properties to suit each individual.

Learning Disability Care

Our friendly specialist support and accommodation, ensures friends and family are confident that each person can live safely and have a secure future. Customers are appointed a personal support worker. Together they create a tailored, structured support package. Customers gain, develop and maintain skills fundamental to living successfully and with dignity.

 Our support covers:

  • Employment & skills training.
  • In-house life-skills.
  • Medication support including personalised technology.
  • Clubs, such as gardening.
  • Organised social activities.
  • Customer involvement groups.

Riverside has considerable experience in supporting independence for customers in their own homes and in specialist housing, integrating individuals and their services with local communities. We know that Adult Social Care Commissioners and Clinical Commissioning Groups want to promote independence, choice and control for customers while reducing the number of inappropriate residential placements.

The services we offer are well placed to do this, with our teams playing a pivotal role in coordinating between practitioners, family, friends, work and the customer.

Specialised housing

We believe that once customers have found the home they want, it should adapt with their needs and wherever possible be a home for life. Riverside offers handyperson services, minor and major adaptations services to help the customer remain living independently in their home.

Younger people

For younger customers independent living may represent a move away from the home for the first time. At this point shorter, more focussed, independence solutions may be most suitable for both the individual and their families. Transitional accommodation services can support both young customers and their families throughout this period of change. Aimed at individuals aged 16-25, we offer short-term stays, tasters and respite, to familiarise the customer and family with the service, offering phased entry for customers if they feel this is the right option for them.

Care Quality Commission

Those services offering a regulated activity under the Health and Social Care Act are registered with the Care Quality Commission.
