Access to employment, education and raining opportunities
What we can offer you
We provide a preventative and enabling service in a positive,
safe environment where individuals are treated with dignity and
respect and supported to overcome the issues that have led to
homelessness. We work closely with both statutory and voluntary
services, providing pathways into drug and alcohol treatment and
providing access to physical and mental health care. We also
provide innovative pathways into employment, training and
education.
Our aim is to prevent homelessness by giving individuals the
skills they need to sustain independence and move on with their
lives.
Our single homeless services include large accommodation based
services with 24 hour support, smaller projects designed for more
independent living and floating support services. We use techniques
such as Life Coaching, Solution Focused Therapies and Motivational
Interviewing to bring out the best in each individual, helping them
to achieve their goals and reach their true potential
PJ’s Story
PJ was referred to The Quays in Sittingbourne by his probation
worker following his release from prison. Our joint working
arrangement with the Probation service enabled his referral to be
processed quickly, reducing the risks of reoffending. PJ stayed at
The Quays for just over five months, during which time he obtained
two qualifications, attended three training courses, re established
contact with his family, found new accommodation and has not
reoffended since leaving prison. “Going to prison led to me being
homeless.
I needed a place on release and my probation [officer] found The
Quays. When I came here I was fearful as I’d stayed in hostels
before and they were just a breeding ground for drugs and crime,
but The Quays has been a safe stepping stone for me, a safe
environment which has enabled me to focus on my priorities
in setting ccommodation back in Surrey, to be near
my family. I’ve now got a place in Surrey, so I’m very grateful to
The Quays and my keyworker Jo who has been there for me. I
was offered a lot of support, emotional support, support in my
physical wellbeing and improving my academic skills. This support
helped me because it showed me The Quays cared about me personally,
which gave me confidence in them and trust.”
PJ, Resident of The Quays scheme, in Sittingbourne Kent.
