In a bid to cut down on the number of empty properties
in our neighbourhoods we are aiming to re-let our homes on the same
day as they are left vacant.
We need your help in order to make this
happen. The terms of your tenancy agreement state that you
must give us four weeks’ notice if you are moving out.
This allows enough time to inspect, advertise
and prepare the property for our next tenant. Many of you
don’t want to live next door to empty houses because they can
attract vandals and vermin.

Last year we spent £2.4 million on empty
properties. Over £200,000 of this was spent on making them
secure. This is money that, if saved, could be reinvested
into your neighbourhood. If the property is let on the day
you move out, the new tenant can move into a home, rather than an
empty property.
If you provide four weeks’ notice, Riverside
will re-let your property quickly, and you may be eligible for some
of the following:
- £100 notice payment
- help with removal costs
- leavers’ assistance
incentives
However, if you fail to provide us with four
weeks’ notice, then we will charge you:
- for rent due during that
four-week period
- for damage you caused during
your tenancy
- for damage caused by others
while the property is empty
- for security costs.
