Charlie, aged 19, is an apprentice electrician at Evolve Facilities, which repairs and maintains our homes, and is part of the Riverside Group.

“I didn’t know what else to do, so I spent a couple of weeks at Evolve on work experience with a qualified electrician. I found that I preferred the hands-on approach and enjoyed learning practical skills on the job, and my mentor took the time to explain the work he was doing.

“I’ve recently started college doing an NVQ in Electrical Installation, which includes a health and workplace module. I’ll build up a portfolio of the work I will do at college and at Evolve.

“My mentor has been a great teacher and I’m learning workplace electrical skills, working on bathroom lights, fans, showers and socket switches.

“I’m working at Riverside properties all over the North West and working with other trades, which will increase my knowledge of other aspects of the building industry. It’s a friendly place to work and I enjoy working with my mentor and the other tradespeople.

“I know how long my training will be, how much work I need to do to complete my course, and what qualifications I’ll achieve.”

David Briscombe and Shaun Minton first joined us in January 2016 to develop a wide range of skills in the specialist leasehold and home ownership division. After a year of practical work and study, they achieved their GNVQ Level 2 in Business Administration.

A number of roles became available at RHO, and both were successful in gaining permanent positions as part of the recruitment.

David, 28, from Dovecot, said: “Riverside is genuinely the best place I have worked in. We have such a good group of people here and that has helped me fit in with ease.”

David’s appointment as New Sales Administrator will see him putting his knowledge and experience into assisting our new customers through the process of buying a shared ownership home.

As Tenanted Sales Administrator, 22-year-old Shaun from Netherton will help Riverside tenants buy their home through one of several home ownership schemes, building on his work as part of the Voluntary Right to Buy pilot.

Rich Bramwell joined us in October 2017 and is our Marketing Production Manager.

He was attracted by Riverside’s national profile and the opportunity to work with a variety of businesses that make up the Group.

Former journalist Rich, who lives in Liverpool, was also keen to work for an organisation that takes equality and diversity seriously.

“I had friends who worked here already and they spoke really highly about the work Riverside does to support LGBT people. As a gay man, it was a big reason for me joining,” says Rich, aged 39.

“It’s great to be part of Spectrum, the LGBT staff group, and there’s a genuine belief here that people should absolutely be able to be themselves at work.

“There is a network of straight allies, which is actively promoted, and they get training on how to support LGBT colleagues. It’s really refreshing and you feel like if there ever were any issues, there’s no shortage of people who’d speak out and support you.”

Rich manages brand and digital marketing, creative design, media relations and internal communications for the Group.

“Working in the Marketing and Communications team is fast-paced and varied, and there are loads of opportunities for training, coaching and personal development,” he adds.

“People here really care about what they do, and some of the stories we get to tell about the difference Riverside’s services make to people’s lives are pretty amazing.”
