You can apply for many of our homes on different websites and through local authorities.

In some areas this is via a waiting list that you need to register for. The other option is through a local choice based lettings partnership which lets you apply for the homes you’re interested in rather than going on a waiting list. Where possible, we advertise our homes through these lettings partnerships where you can see properties from lots of landlords all in one place.

In some areas, a number of properties are also given to people referred by the local authority. This is called a local authority nomination.

How do I apply for a home?

Search for the area that you want to live in below and follow the instructions for the relevant scheme in that area. The process does involve filling in some forms online so please be ready for that.

Riverside advertises a number of properties through Tyne and Wear Homes. Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside and South Tyneside Councils, and their respective housing organisations, have joined together to bring you an easier way to access the options available to you. Once registered, you can:
  • Apply for social housing across the region from this central source, rather than filling in separate application forms for each local authority
  • Search for available homes
  • Bid for properties, not with money, but with the time you have built on the housing register (Your queue position is not calculated by the time your bid is placed, It is not a first come first served basis)
  • See the results of homes that have recently been let
  • Find out about alternative housing options.
You do not have to bid on three properties each week in order to remain on the Housing Register (Unless you have been advised at point of registration to do this). We recommend you only bid on properties you wish to be considered for. You will need to submit this registration stage within 30 minutes otherwise your details will not be saved and you will need to start again Under Tyne and Wear Homes, you are not limited to housing in just one part of the region. For example, you could apply for a home in just one area, or a combination of four local authorities. As each partner landlord operates under the terms of its own lettings policy, your housing application will therefore be assessed differently depending on where you apply for housing.
