Hardwick House provides short‑term supported accommodation for single ex‑Service veterans who are homeless or at risk of sleeping rough. Veterans can stay for up to 18 months while they take part in a planned support programme designed to help them move on to independent living.
Support is built around four main areas:
- Independent living skills development
- Health and wellbeing
- Training and education to prepare for employment
- A structured move into independent housing
During their stay, veterans are supported to build practical life skills, improve their physical and mental health, and prepare for work or training. The aim is to help each person gain the confidence and stability they need to live independently in an area of their choice.
Key outcomes for veterans
- Ability to manage and maintain a tenancy independently
- Improved readiness for work or entry into employment
- Better mental and physical health
- Reduced dependency on substances
- Stronger social connections and informal support networks
- A successful transition to civilian life
