Homeless Families Unit, Barnsley

What you will find at the accommodation

How the service works

The Homeless Families Unit provides interim accommodation for families who are waiting for long‑term housing. Families must be referred by the Local Authority to access the service.

You can stay at the scheme while the Local Authority decides on their duty to house you and helps find suitable long‑term accommodation. Most families move on to Local Authority housing in the area of their choice.

During your stay, the Local Authority works closely with a Housing Officer to look at long‑term housing options that meet your family’s needs. A Housing Officer can also support you with benefit claims, ongoing support, referrals, and signposting to other services if you need extra help.
