Bellamy Close and Byng Street

We’re regenerating Bellamy Close and Byng Street to create high‑quality new homes, safer streets and improved outdoor spaces for current and future residents.

Building homes for the future

Following a successful residents’ ballot, we’re redeveloping Bellamy Close and Byng Street to provide 218 new homes, including new homes for all 24 existing affordable tenants who wish to return. Their rent and tenancy terms will be protected.

The development will include 63 homes for social rent, helping to provide more affordable homes for people on the local housing waiting list.

We’re working with Mount Anvil to deliver the new homes. Construction started in March 2024, with the first homes due to be completed in 2026.

Latest Updates

Stay up to date with the latest project news and newsletters.

Update - September 2025

Tower Block C is making vast progress, with the concrete frame rising to level 32 completed. Cladding works, which began in April 2025, have advanced rapidly. Inside, fit-out works are progressing well, with almost all specialist trades active on site. The townhouses are also taking shape, with their traditional brick façades reaching level 2—bringing warmth, character and charm to the development.

Update - July 2025

In July 2025, we celebrated the re-opening of the play space on Strafford Street, following a state-of-the-art upgrade with a new timber finish, as part of the works to enhance the local area. It was our pleasure to work with Mount Anvil and Tower Hamlets Council to provide a renewed space that can be enjoyed by local families, as well as bringing new biodiversity to the area coupled with new adventures for the little ones in this much-loved space.

We are looking forward to continuing working together with residents and our partner Mount Anvil to deliver the project for the benefit of existing residents and the wider community.

How we got here

Residents have been involved in shaping the future of Bellamy Close and Byng Street from the start. Here’s how the redevelopment plans developed.

Why was regeneration considered?

Discussions began in 2016, after plans were approved for a major neighbouring development.

Residents were concerned about the impact of several years of construction and the future of the area, so we began exploring options for Bellamy Close and Byng Street.

How were residents involved?

Residents helped shape the proposals through consultation events, design workshops and regular meetings.

A Residents’ Steering Group was formed and an independent resident adviser appointed to support residents throughout the process.

What did residents vote for?

In December 2019, 83.9% of residents voted in favour of regeneration, with 100% of eligible residents taking part.

What happened after the ballot?

We continued to work with residents and HTA Design to develop the proposals.

Resident feedback led to changes to the designs before the plans were submitted for planning approval.
