Community comes together to Keep Murdishaw Tidy

A group of determined residents have teamed up to combat fly-tipping and littering in their area.

The brainchild of Amy Brown, a 28-year-old self-employed beautician from Runcorn who became fed up with seeing litter on her daily walks during lockdown, Keep Murdishaw Tidy is a team of people who have joined forces to tackle the problem.

After connecting through Facebook, they held their first community clean up recently and are now establishing it as a regular thing to help restore pride in their area.

They’re even looking to visit schools in the area to unite young people behind the cause.

Amy explained: “I did a lot of walking during lockdown and every time I walked there was more and more litter. After a while, I got fed up and I reached out to see if other people felt the same.

“It was a hit pretty much straight away and there were a lot of like-minded people out there who felt the same.

“We said we would sort out an event to get started and got some really good interest.”

A range of other community organisations are also getting involved with local PCSO’s helping to provide equipment and local councillors and football club officials also offering their help.

At their first event, they even found an injured bird and took it to a local vet to be cared for.

The group also held a follow up event on April 11 and hope to host clean-ups all around the Murdishaw area of Runcorn in the future.
