Free Roofing Academy offers Riverside residents a route into construction careers
Riverside news News article
Are you or someone in your household interested in learning practical skills, gaining industry experience and exploring a future career in construction?
We are working with Langley and others to offer residents and customers the chance to take part in a fully funded five-day Roofing Academy from 28 September to 2 October at United Colleges Group, Paddington Campus. No previous experience is needed, making it an ideal opportunity for anyone aged 16+ looking to start a career in roofing or construction.
The academy combines hands-on training, industry knowledge and career support to help learners build confidence and develop skills that employers are looking for. Training is delivered by Langley's government-approved training team and provides an introduction to modern roofing systems, health and safety, workplace practices and employability skills.
What will you learn?
Over the course of the week, learners will gain practical experience in:
- Flat roofing principles and waterproofing techniques
- Roofing membranes and system build-ups
- Installation of insulation, underlay and cap sheets
- Repairs, maintenance and detailing
- Safe use of tools and equipment
- Fire safety awareness and manual handling
- Surface preparation and installation techniques
- Modern roofing systems and specialist materials
- Workplace behaviours and expectations
- Interview preparation and career development support
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage directly with employers working on major regeneration projects, gain valuable industry insight and hear about real employment opportunities within the sector.
More than just a training course
The Roofing Academy has been designed to help people take their first steps into a sustainable career. As well as practical training, participants will have access to:
- Information about roofing apprenticeships
- Entry-level employment opportunities
- Further training and upskilling pathways
- Long-term career development support
- Access to live job opportunities within the industry
The programme is delivered by Langley Training Services (LTS), a social enterprise dedicated to developing skills, supporting career progression and creating meaningful social value through construction training.
Fully funded places available
The programme is completely free to attend and includes:
- Expert training and support
- Materials and equipment
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep
- Support with travel expenses where needed
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're looking to develop new skills, build confidence and explore opportunities in a growing industry, this could be the perfect place to start. Travel expenses can be funded.
