The celebration event marked the completion of extensive renovation works which began in September 2025. Attendees included Centre 28 customers, representatives from Riverside and Hull City Council (which commissions the building and its services), ward councillors and representatives from Hull KR and Hull FC.

The refurbishment of Centre 28, carried out by Storm Tempest and Aspect Building Solutions and co-produced with customers, has included:

  • Redecoration and replacement of all furniture and flooring in customer rooms.
  • Customers have received a new bed, wardrobe, fridge freezer, desk, chair and a lamp.
  • New kitchens and lounges in each residential house and replacement of all 10 showers.
  • Relocation of the reception area, a new bicycle store and wooden garden fencing installed.
  • Dedicated games, life skills and wellbeing rooms have been created for customers and staff and new furniture provided throughout the service.

Throughout this time, customer feedback informed every stage of the refurbishment with Centre 28 customers selecting interior design styles and furniture.

"Since moving back into Centre 28, I've found it to be a very welcoming environment. The games room is very spacious now that it has been done up with a PS5 and a football table and we all enjoy ourselves in here. The staff here are also very helpful."
