Helping your home stay warm

Home energy improvements help your home stay warmer, use less energy and reduce heat loss.

Depending on your home, this could include:

  • Wall and loft insulation
  • New windows and doors
  • Improved ventilation
  • Draught-proofing
  • Energy-saving lighting

We'll assess each property and recommend the improvements that are most suitable.

How the process works

We aim to improve your home’s energy performance in less than a year. Here’s what happens.

1. We identify suitable homes

We assess homes to identify where energy improvements could make the biggest difference.

If your home is suitable, we'll contact you.

2.  We carry out a survey

A Retrofit Advisor will visit your home to understand what improvements may be needed.

3. We create a plan

We'll recommend the most suitable improvements for your home and explain what work is involved.

4. We complete the work

Our approved contractors will carry out the improvements and keep disruption to a minimum.

5. We support you afterwards

We'll explain how any new systems work and make sure you're happy with the results.

Will I have to pay?

No. Energy improvement works are provided at no cost to eligible customers.

How long will the work take?

This depends on the improvements being installed. We'll explain timescales before any work starts.

Will I need to move out?

We prioritise homes based on surveys, funding and property suitability. If your home is selected, we'll contact you directly.

Can I request energy improvements?

As homes become more airtight, ventilation helps manage airflow, reduce condensation, prevent damp and improve indoor air quality. Ventilation points are usually installed in the kitchen and bathroom. 

Will the work make a difference?

 The aim is to improve comfort, reduce heat loss and help your home become more energy efficient.

Our commitment

We want all homes to meet a basic energy-efficiency standard by 2030.

To get there, we will focus on the homes that need the most support first. Our goal is for all homes to reach an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C by 2030, unless it is not technically possible or cost‑effective.

About 70% of Riverside homes already meet, or are above, this level.

You will be able to see the EPC for your home once it is lodged.
