Riverside has been shortlisted in two categories for the prestigious UK Housing Awards 2018.

We’re in the running for ‘Outstanding Approach to Communication’ and ‘Outstanding Approach to Meeting Specialist Housing Needs’ in the annual awards which recognise excellence in the UK housing sector.

The shortlisting for the communications award comes after Riverside and partners St Mungo’s, Housing and Care 21, Hanover, Homeless Link, and Home Group were instrumental in persuading the Government to end the threat of Local Housing Allowance (LHA) caps for supported and social housing.

The campaign was founded on the creation of a joint impact model, followed by engagement with MPs and Ministers, media and social media coverage, and partnership working with the National Housing Federation. This highlighted the damaging and highly inconsistent impact that the LHA cap would have had on hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people all over the country, especially in lower value areas.

Meanwhile, Riverside’s new Extra Care developments in Hull are in the running for the ‘Outstanding Approach to Meeting Specialist Housing Needs’ award. This is the first service of its kind to deliver an intergenerational housing model and is accredited with gold status for dementia care by Sterling University.

The 316 Extra Care apartments across three sites were built to help meet the growing demand for people aged 18 to 65 with care needs, as part of a long-term partnership with Hull City Council. Residents include working age people with disabilities, mental health needs and dementia, as well as older people.

Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on May 2.

The UK Housing Awards are organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Inside Housing magazine to recognise excellence across the housing sector.
