Ash Plantation plans unveilled

Residents in North Bransholme have been consulted on proposed improvements to Ash Plantation.

The much-loved ancient woodland has more than 20 species of wildlife and more than 50 species of plants.

Improvements include:

• installing a new perimeter fence

• regular strimming and mowing of path edges

• maintaining grass around the picnic area

• erecting additional bat and bird boxes, possibly using fly-tipped wood already on site

• reducing brambles, with a view to increasing the amount of open grassland

• introducing local cowslip seedlings into open glades and woodland

• creating information boards about the flora and fauna as part of an outdoor classroom

• supplementary tree planting within the existing woodland, with the assistance of the community

• introducing native ground flora

• reducing the number of sycamore trees

• extending the woodland using trees donated by William Jackson Food Group, which is planting 200,000 trees across Hull to celebrate its bicentenary

• creating additional pathways through the woodland and improvements to the existing pathways.
