Training opportunities for tenants

Riverside joined forces with Keepmoat homes and the Citywide partnership to deliver a Kickstart Construction training programme to tenants in North Bransholme, Hull.

The three week course has helped 11 tenants to gain valuable knowledge, practical experience and accredited qualifications to help them find work in the construction industry.  The first day began with a “Branding Me” session to understand where tenants are now, where they want to be and what they needed to do to get there.  This helped the tenants to understand what they wanted to achieve from the training.

Orchard Training and Source Solutions carried out the training.  Participates were able to carry out practical work at the local Bransholme community centre which involved ground work for the refurbishment of the children’s play area and garden. The play area will have a patio area, artificial grass with play tunnel.  While new planters are being built for the garden, to grow fruit and vegetables to be used in the centre.

The programme was a great success with all the tenants attending every day and passing the five accredited qualifications on offer.  They have now completed the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) for health and safety level 2 on construction sites.

Zoe Copper, Riverside tenant said: “Thank you to Riverside in particular Sam for getting me on this course. It has been a brilliant three weeks I’ve loved every minute and I am very grateful for the opportunity it has created to better my life and give me new skills”

Richard Hadley from Riverside commented: “We’re so proud to be working with Keepmoat and the training providers. The course has delivered some outstanding results.  Already five of our tenants have secured work with Keepmoat homes and the remaining will continue to engage with Riverside’s employment and training services so that they get the support to find work.”

Mark Burley, Social & Economic Impact Manager from Keepmoat said: “The commitment and drive from this group of residents to gain the skills and qualifications so that they can find a job in construction has been incredible. There’s some really strong candidates that will secure employment in the sector, we have two participant completing a two week work experience already.”
