The Crossings: Sticking with It

Glen Adams has sucessfully moved on from The Crossings in Hull

By: Glen Adams, former customer at The Crossings in Hull

I found myself homeless after a dispute with my Dad. I ended up sofa surfing at my Auntie’s place and then stayed with a couple of friends for a few nights.

I went to The Wilson Centre in Hull to search for help and was referred to The Crossings. After an assessment, I was given a room the very same day.

Having my own accommodation and people to socialise with was great. I took part in training courses, volunteered at Your Café (based at The Crossings), and even won the majority of votes to become the centre’s Customer Representative.

As well as helping me apply for job vacancies, the support team has assisted me in completing resettlement forms and provided references to help me find my own flat.

Now that I will be moving on, I’m more hopeful and have lots to look forward to. I’m looking for a permanent job and then hope to settle down and have children.

My advice to anyone who finds themselves in my position is to the stick with it, and you will succeed.
