“We were shocked and very concerned to hear about the fire in Barking on Sunday and our thoughts are with everyone affected. The cause of the fire is not yet known and we understand that a full investigation is underway.

“Once the investigation is complete we, like other housing providers, will be keen to scrutinise its findings and take into account any recommendations from the report across our entire housing stock and new build development programme.

We feel we should clarify that the development known as ‘Riverside’ where the fire took place was not developed or managed by The Riverside Group and the shared name is purely coincidental.

“The safety of our customers is our top priority. We work hard to make sure our homes meet the highest fire safety standards, and that we fulfil all of our responsibilities to keep customers safe.

“We liaise closely with our advisors at London Fire Brigade and our fire service colleagues nationwide, and act on any changes they recommend.”
