Once again we are sponsoring the Community Group category at The North Ayrshire Provost’s Civic Pride Awards on Friday 18 March. The annual event raises vital funds for Cash for Kids and the Ayrshire Hospice.
The community group award is presented to a voluntary organisation which has made a positive contribution to the community and promoted or demonstrated civic pride in the community.
Break The Silence – This independent charity has been suppurating adult survivors of sexual abuse and rape for more than a decade, as well as providing support to their families. The group offers a range of counselling options as well as complementary therapies . Their efforts have helped hundreds of men and women across North Ayrshire, increasing their self worth and confidence as well as guiding them to wards a brighter future. Survivors can also volunteer with the service, passing on advice and help from their own experiences.
Irvine & Troon Cancer Care – This volunteer run group based at Heathfield House, Kilwinning Road, Irvine, was set up in 1987 and is run by people who have all, in some way, been affected by cancer. They offer a free, much needed transport for patients attending hospitals in Glasgow and throughout Ayrshire. patients are collected directly from their homes, accompanied to hospital and driven home afterwards. Last year alone, drivers completed more than 1,500 journeys, covering more than 100,000 miles, taking about 200 people to approximately 3,000 appointments.
Recovery at Work (RaW) – This community group was launched three years ago to help bring stability to people whose lives have been affected by addiction and the chaos it brings to their lives. RaW provides an opportunity for those in recovery from addiction to give peer support as well as develop new skills. In the past year the group has launched Café Solace, at Ardrossan Church of the Nazarene, allowing volunteers to gain skills and confidence. It has also become a community resource. In the past eight months or so, the café has attracted more than 1,600 customers
