I found myself homeless after being diagnosed with depression while adjusting to life without my grandma. I had nowhere to go and I was struggling to cope, after relationships with my other family members had broken down. I blamed myself and felt like giving up.
Feeling overwhelmed, I moved into The Crossings in September 2014. I received support to access training and tackle my issues with my family. I completed a first aid course and began volunteering at Your Café, based at The Crossings.
I have made lots of friends at The Crossings and feel more positive now. I feel like I’ve completely turned my life around from how I used to be.
I now have my own flat in Hull and continue with my volunteering. I’m loving having my own secure space, which is helping me feel less stressed. I come back to The Crossings each week to attend the Quirky Quilters workshop, which I started when I lived at the scheme. It’s my social life and I really enjoy crafts as a hobby. I have made bags, cushions, treasure chests and completed lots of other fun projects!
My advice to somebody who finds themselves homeless is that if you want to change your life it is hard, but that change will happen if you persevere. In the future I hope to get married and get back into work. I would love to have children and see more of the world.
