Digital training sessions at Irvine Housing Association

Irvine Housing Association (IHA) held digital coffee mornings throughout the month of November with their sheltered housing tenants at West Doura Court and Hawthorn Place in Kilwinning. Mark Abrahart, IHA’s IT Support and Gillian Scott, IHA’s Employability Officer, were on hand during each session to offer help and advice.

Gillian Scott, Employability Officer at IHA said, “The coffee mornings have given our sheltered tenants the chance to learn how to use technology such as a tablets, laptops and smart phones. Many tenants brought their own mobile phones along to the session, and with our help they can now confidently send text messages to their friends and family, something many of us take for granted. Some tenants have family who live abroad, we were able to show them the benefits of using Skype, social networking sites and mobile video messaging to stay in touch with their friends and family.”

Mark Abrahart, IT Technical Support Officer at IHA said, “A common myth is that the older generation are not keen to participate in the world of technology, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth, the enthusiasm to learn and get online were the reasons our coffee mornings were a success.”
