Thorpes Resource Centre receives donation

Donation of over £300 made to a local community centre to enable them to buy much needed play equipment.

The Thorpes Resource Centre, based on Homethorpe, Orchard Park was established in September 2012 and the money will be going towards helping the centre to support families in the local area to join in with arts and crafts sessions and playing games.  The centre covers the Orchard Park and Greenwood ward of Kingston upon Hull.  The sessions will enable the local families to mix with other in the local area, which in turn helps the children to learn social skills through play in a safe environment.

Pictured is Lee Bailey from Riverside presenting the cheque at a “meet your neighbours event”. Riverside hosted the event to welcome the new neighbours to the estate and to encourage them to get to know each other at this new build of 36 two and three bedroom houses.

Bethany Brocklesby who moved in to her house in February was really pleased with her new home and said “I viewed the house in the winter time and couldn’t believe how warm it felt.  The house is really cosy and well insulated.  I know most of the neighbours already and it is really neighbourly and a lovely place to live”.

Lee Bailey, Riverside’s Community Investment Team Leader said: “The Hub provides a valuable service to the people of Orchard Park and the people who volunteer their time to run the centre should be extremely proud. We’re pleased that we can help out in this way and look forward to working together more in the future.”

Maxine from Thorpes Resource Centre said “We are really grateful to Riverside for the funds which enables us to buy much needed arts and crafts for our sessions.  It’s really important that the young children in the area have somewhere that they can come and express themselves through arts and crafts and the money will ensure that we can continue to arrange these sessions”..
