My money

Liverpool City Council can pay Housing Benefit directly into your bank account. It’s the same for all Riverside tenants aged 18-61 in the L25 and L27 postcode areas.

We want to switch you over as smoothly as possible and we’re providing extra support to make sure this can happen. We’ll talk you through your options and offer personalised support including help to manage your money and choose a bank account. There’s more information here and we’ll visit everyone who can switch over to talk you through the options. If you want to sign up now, or just talk it over, get in touch.

How do I get my money?

Get in touch to make an appointment for us to visit you. We can explain the details and sign you up.

No bank account? No problem.

We can help you set one up and to decide which type suits you best.

Managing your money over four weeks

Each payment from the Council is for the four weeks up to the day you get it. Payments into your account will be on the same four-weekly schedule as the Council pays your Housing Benefit now.

How direct payment helps you

Part of the reason why it’s good to get Housing Benefit paid into your account, is to help you get ready for Universal Credit. Under Universal Credit, you’ll need to pay us all of your rent and charges directly. You can get used to that now, choosing whichever payment option works best for you.

Universal Credit will be lots of benefits all together in one payment. Just getting your Housing Benefit for now lets you get used to managing your money yourself, over a similar period each month. But without changing everything all in one go, like it will with Universal Credit.

Getting ready for Universal Credit

⎯ get money into your account and pay your rent yourself

⎯ manage your money over four weeks

⎯ just your Housing Benefit instead of lots of benefits together.

What is Universal Credit?

It’s replacing Housing Benefit and lots of other income-related benefits. It’s being rolled out gradually, but you could move onto it anytime from now. Payments are made monthly, directly into your bank account
