Project led by Riverside to insulate homes begins

A project led by Riverside to insulate homes has begun. More than 240 terraced houses are earmarked for external insulation, which should reduce heating bills by up to 40%, saving the average household up to £463 a year.

The project forms part of our £2 million investment towards insulating homes in Merseyside, and follows the upgrade of more than 300 homes in Wavertree and Toxteth.

Riverside’s Energy Project Manager, Howard Garde, said: “Fuel poverty is a growing problem for families across the country. “This work should not only help people save money on fuel bills, but also reduce condensation, avoid damp and mould, and can also help stabilise some health conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other respiratory illnesses.”

The late 19th century terraced properties are built of solid wall construction and are classed as hard to treat, compared with modern cavity wall homes.

The project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Energy Company Obligation, with Riverside contributing approximately £70,000.
