Pledge to customers after man evicted for growing cannabis

A Riverside tenant who grew cannabis with a street value of up to £16,000 has been evicted from his flat in Liverpool.

Police visited the property in Aigburth earlier this year after responding to a noise complaint from a neighbour. It was while there that they discovered 20 cannabis plants being cultivated using a sophisticated growing system with an estimated value of between £8,000 and £16,000.

The man, whose behaviour prompted complaints about noise and anti-social behaviour, was arrested at the scene, convicted in Crown Court and sent to prison.

Following the conviction, Riverside applied to evict the man, who sought legal advice and appealed. A review hearing was held in front of an impartial panel and the decision to evict was upheld.

The eviction was made possible thanks to working in partnership with residents and Merseyside Police.

Gillian Hunt, Community Safety Team Leader said: “This has been quite a long process due to a number of factors. The tenant was released from prison early and he continued to cause nuisance and annoyance to his neighbours. He was then re-arrested following another incident.

“This is a great result for the community – a resident who was known to cause nuisance and anti-social behaviour has now finally been evicted from the property. It is thanks to the support and willingness of neighbours who gave evidence that the eviction was able to take place, in conjunction with the tools and powers made available to registered social landlords under the Crime and Policing Act 2014.

We will always take action to stop anti-social behaviour so that Riverside customers can live peacefully and happily in their homes.”
