Riverside work to keep neighbourhood safe

A Riverside tenant and her family were evicted on Wednesday (25 October) following their continuous anti-social behaviour in Toxteth, Liverpool.

The tenant’s sons and her ex-partner who were known to Merseyside Police had been causing issues around the Toxteth area since 2012.

Riverside intervened on many occasions working in partnership with Merseyside Police and other agencies to help the tenant and her family. However this failed and in February this year, Riverside finally took the difficult decision to apply for a possession order on the grounds of nuisance and anti-social behaviour and continuous breach of tenancy by the tenant’s family.

On 1 August, Liverpool County Court granted Riverside a Possession Order. The judge recognised that the tenant tried to maintain her tenancy but she could not control the behaviour of her three sons or her partner at the time. He allowed her to stay for a further 12 weeks so that she could find somewhere else to live and today the bailiffs executed the eviction notice.

Ian Lightfoot, Regional Service Delivery Manager at Riverside said: “This has been a long and difficult journey.”

“This is a good result for the local community some of whom said they were living in fear because of the anti-social behaviour.

“We have a zero tolerance to anti-social behaviour from tenants and anyone who lives with them. We will take action to help make sure tenants and local community in all our areas have a pleasant and safe place to live.”

Inspector Geoff Stewart of Merseyside Police said: “This eviction follows a number of reports of anti-social behaviour to the police and our partners. We will always work with tenants and housing providers in an attempt to find solutions. Eviction is often a last resort by the housing provider however, it is our job to make our communities a safe and peaceful place to live for everybody.”

“Riverside Housing have shown they are committed to providing this environment for all residents in our community.”
