The customers of Grosvenor Gardens in Tameside were proud to be the winners of this year’s regional and national Care and Support garden competition.

The garden includes a large seating area, herb garden, green house, and numerous beautiful plants and trees. In addition, the residents have built a summer house, as there is no communal lounge at the scheme and they love to have regular get-togethers. 

Scheme Manager Jane Snellin said: “I am delighted for the tenants, as they work so hard to ensure the garden can be  enjoyed all year round, and it is like a little oasis in a suburban area.”

Resident Glynn Oakley said: “Gardening is a great way of exercising and reducing stress. It’s a social activity that brings neighbours together.

“A little effort by a few can bring untold joy and pleasure to those who are unable to contribute physically in creating or
maintaining their garden.”

Hard work gets rewards

Richard Humphreys always wanted a garden, so when he had the chance to move into a flat at Danbury Close with a garden, he jumped at it. 

Initially, the small plot was just a lawn but, since then, Mr Humphreys has transformed it into an array of blossoms, vegetables and pot plants. 

The garden is his pride and joy and he works extremely hard throughout the year to maintain this. He was delighted 
to be named our national runner-up.

Therapeutic gardening

Patrick Ratingham, from Central Court, London, has been working tirelessly all year round, to improve the scheme’s communal garden. 

His efforts won Central Court the runner-up position in the Best Kept Garden Competition this year.

Patrick has been supported in his efforts by B&Q, which gave him 50% off gardening purchases.
