We’ve joined a national campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep our customers and neighbourhoods safe.
Running from Monday 18 to 24 November, ASB Awareness Week 2024 aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlight the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.
Organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation, the week features a series of events across the UK involving councils, Police Forces, housing associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.
To mark the return of this year’s awareness week, our Community Safety team will be conducting joint patrols with the police and Parkguard security, aimed at reducing ASB through partnership working.
YouGov research commissioned by Resolve found that almost one in five people have had to consider moving home because of the impact ASB; with one in 10 who have actually moved. Despite this, over half of those Resolve surveyed who were either a victim or witness of ASB did not report the ASB.
We’re are fully committed to dealing firmly and fairly with acts of crime and anti-social behaviour. We want our neighbourhoods to be safe places for everyone. We won’t tolerate behaviour that prevents our customers feeling secure in their home and their neighbourhood.
We’re therefore urging our individuals not to suffer in silence if they experience ASB. Incidents can be reported to the Community Safety Team, local council or to the police if people feel that they are at immediate risk or in danger.
Lee Andrews, Riverside’s Community Safety Team Manager, said:
“Anti-social behaviour can affect anyone, and we do not underestimate the negative impact that it can have on our customers and the communities that they live in.
“Our dedicated Community Safety teams across the UK work to solve any issues as quickly as possible and support those who are impacted by such behaviours.
“ASB Awareness Week is a fantastic opportunity for Riverside to work in collaboration with partner agencies such as the police and local authorities to raise awareness about the type of work we do and highlight the help and support available to those affected.
“Our Community Safety Officers will be attending ASB Awareness events throughout the week, including partnership walkabouts in ASB hotspot areas with police and local authorities, visits to schools to discuss with children the impact of ASB in the community and hosting numerous drop-in sessions at Riverside schemes to speak with residents
“Our message is very clear on this important subject, no-one should suffer or live in fear of ASB, so if you are affected or are aware of someone that is, please report it to us or in the event of an emergency to the police so that we can act together to help.”
Rebecca Bryant OBE, Chief Executive of Resolve added:
“ASB is not low-level. It can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime.
“It is important that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs so that people everywhere feel safe in their homes and communities.
“We are delighted that Riverside is supporting this hugely important campaign. It is vital to develop partnership approaches across communities to deal with the growing challenges around ASB.”
