Voluntary Right to Buy for housing association tenants

Voluntary Right to Buy Pilot Scheme

Riverside was one of five housing associations taking part in a trial scheme, in partnership with the Government, to offer tenants in certain areas the opportunity to buy their home under a voluntary sales scheme similar to the existing Right to Buy. The pilot ran up to March 2017 and  was limited to a certain number of properties. Applications are no longer being taken.

Tenants who took part in the pilot could get a discount of up to 70% on the market value of their home (or £77,900, whichever was lower) and were some of the first housing association tenants in the country to have this opportunity under the Government’s plans.

The Government alongside the National Housing Federation is working through the detail of how the national Voluntary Right to Buy will work.  A second trial of the scheme is likely to take place, however the location and eligibility criteria have not yet been finalised. More details will be announced in due course.

We’ll keep our website up to date with the latest developments or you can register your interest on the government’s Right to Buy website.
