Demolition complete
August 2025

The demolition of Friars Close is now complete. This is a big milestone for the project and an exciting step towards building the new development.

What’s next?
Over the next four weeks, the construction team will be removing the foundations of the former building and prepare a level platform so the new construction activities can begin. We’ll keep you updated as the work moves forward.

Plaque saved
Many residents who lived in the former block, and who will move back once their new homes are built, asked us to keep the original plaque from the old building. We’re pleased to confirm it has been saved. The plaque is now with our construction partners, Mount Anvil, and will be part of the new development as a tribute to the history of Friars Close.

Our latest update
March 2025

The soft demolition of the block is underway, with the internal of the block now stripped out and ongoing site surveys in progress. The full demolition of the building has been slightly delayed, and we are in discussions with Southwark to confirm a start date. We will continue to keep everyone informed.

Introducing ‘The Edit’

‘The Edit’ is the new marketing name for the private sale homes within the development. It is common for developments with a mix of private and affordable homes to have different branding.

We have achieved vacant possession of the block
November 2024

We are pleased to announce that all residents have relocated to temporary homes of their choice, marking a key milestone in the redevelopment. With vacant possession secured, our construction partners, Mount Anvil can now fully access the site and prepare for demolition.

What’s next?
Mount Anvil will start the soft demolition works, which includes surveys and stripping out the vacant homes, prior to full scale demolition.

Working hours are Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, and Saturdays 8am-1pm. These works will involve the safe and efficient demolition of existing homes, buildings and services to allow a clear site for the new homes to be built. A 3-metre-high perimeter hoarding will be erected with a site health and safety information board with contact details fitted at the main entrance gate.

Mount Anvil are working to minimise any disruption to the local community whilst works are ongoing, regularly monitoring dust, noise and vibration levels to ensure they stay within the permitted levels.
