Customers joined staff this summer to celebrate 20 years of homelessness support at Bruce House in Westminster.
The service, officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in July 1995, marked the event in the scheme’s central courtyard with a party showcasing talented customers’ musical and art skills.
The event was organised with fellow housing providers, Peabody, Lookahead and Centrepoint. Riverside customer Roger Martinsson also played a big part in the planning. Fellow customer James Wilson came to Bruce House in 2013 following difficulties with his mental health.
A keen artist, he began participating in the London Connection art group, which he says has helped stabilise his mood and given him a sense of purpose.
At the anniversary celebration James unveiled 10 new pieces of artwork, themed around cubism and animation, alongside musicians playing blues tunes and Spanish flamenco music, and a play on the history of George Peabody.
