It was all hands on deck when Junior Cadets and Riverside Housing Officers teamed up with volunteers in Botcherby for a community litter pick earlier this month.
Lots of rubbish was collected during the clean-up. Cadet leader Jack Paton said “The Cadets were fantastic considering the oldest was only 10 and the youngest just eight , people are still remarking on how well they did. I feel this was a very rewarding exercise, not only for the community but it shows people that these young Cadets can give up their time to go into the estate and help to make it a better environment.
During a recent Riverside neighbourhood survey in Botcherby it was identified that there were issues with dog fouling on the estate and this was a concern to local residents. This event offered a great opportunity for the Carlisle City Council Community Wardens to meet dog owners and help people think about responsible dog ownership, they also micro-chipped 31 dogs for free!
Thanks to Virgin Media who were on hand to provide refreshments for the team and also got involved in the litter pick, Kyle Dodd who lead their team said
“It’s very inspiring to see the local cadet troop coming out on a Saturday morning to help clean up their estate, the community was very welcoming and the Virgin Media Team were pleased to be part of the day.”
