MEP visits new homes in Harraby

Fred Lippett met with Theresa Griffin when the MEP visited the new homes in Harraby

The European Member of Parliament for the North West, Theresa Griffin, visited new homes in Harraby, Carlisle.

The rented homes at St Elizabeth’s Close – two bungalows, two three-bedroom houses, and two two-bedroom houses – were built on the site of the former Arnside Court sheltered accommodation complex on Arnside Road, as part of a £1 million investment by Riverside.

The warden’s house from Arnside Court was retained and revamped into another family home as part of the work.

Theresa spoke to 93-year-old Fred Lippett, who lives opposite St Elizabeth’s Close. He had attended the first consultation about the development and was on hand to ‘supervise’ the demolition of the old buildings.

Fred said: “It has been really good watching it go up. It makes the area look modernised.

“It is heartening to know that it is putting more people into properties that are needed and wanted.
