Members of staff at Riverside have been rolling back the years and re-discovering their pompom making skills to help a local charity’s Guinness World Record attempt.

During 2016 Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice are hoping to set a new world record for the longest line of pompoms as part of the charity’s 25^th Anniversary celebrations.

Since launching the campaign in October 2015 a host of schools, community groups, businesses and individuals from across Cumbria and further afield have begun making pompoms to help the world record attempt, including local business Riverside who have made 200 pompoms to date.

Tracy Andrew, Performance and Efficiency Office at Riverside, explains, “Riverside staff in Cumbria have a long history of raising money for Eden Valley Hospice by donating profits from our tuck shop, collection tins year round and individuals raising money through events so when we heard about the pompom making we wanted to do our bit.

“We’ve still got a lot more wool here at the office so plan to make some more over the last couple of months of the challenge.”

The pompom making challenge is something fun and exciting which everyone can take part in as it brings the community together to break the world record. The challenge will take place throughout 2016 with the pompoms being paraded in a line in September 2016.

At the end of the challenge all of the pompoms will be transformed into a range of products, from key rings to bobble hats, and sold to raise money in aid of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw. The money raised will help the local charity to provide care, support and activities to adults and children with life limiting illnesses.
