Volunteers get stuck in at Wor HooseThe Wor Hoose Community Project and Thorpe’s Hub both benefitted from the generosity of Riverside staff and others during the events.

Thorpe’s Hub is based near to Riverside’s recently completed development of 36 homes on a former tower block site in Homethorpe, Orchard Park. The Wor Hoose project was set up by residents in 2001 to help people overcome social exclusion
and improve their lives.

Dulux donated paint and equipment, including brushes, rollers, overalls and sandpaper.

The Newcastle clean-up included an estate-wide litter pick, with the council providing skips and caged vans for bulky waste.
Building Futures East also cleared the overgrown garden.

In Hull, volunteers, Riverside staff, contractors Evolve, and even ‘pirates’ from Withernsea Pirates, turned up and gave their time to paint the centre.

Community Engagement Team Leader Lee Bailey said: “We are allocated two volunteering days per year, which we can use on work-related projects, and I am so pleased that my colleagues used one of their days to help out. ”
