An area in Mickley will soon be attracting butterflies and insects and providing a ‘bee café’, thanks to a wildflower meadow planting project.
Riverside, with Keepmoat, County Councillor Anne Dale and Mickley First School, organised the project on council land near to one of Riverside’s new housing developments.
The project, close to the 22 two and three bedroom homes, will provide new forage for bees and attract butterflies and insects.
Pupils from Year 4 planted nectar-rich wildflower seeds, donated by Keepmoat to entice butterflies and bees into the area and also protect native species.
Riverside Community Engagement Team Leader Lee Bailey said: “These flowers will really brighten up the area and I’d like to
thank the children for all their hard work in successfully planting thousands of wildflower seeds, which will really benefit the environment.”
