An East London community is getting a new look for the New Year thanks to £44K funding from housing association Riverside.
Issues with security and dilapidation in this East London community have led to a refresh project including new gates, bin stores and landscape gardening.
After a consultation with tenants, Riverside applied for Central Asset Management Team funding of circa £44k to improve security and the general surroundings at The Moorings. Current bin stores and sheds will be demolished, security gates will be improved with fob entry system reinstated. With planning permission now approved, work starts in January with an expected completion date end of February.
Community engagement officer, Wendy Mason, said: “Long-standing issues with the gates at the estate have led to security fears within the community so the gates are being relocated and a fob entry system reinstated. Existing bin stores have become inadequate due to the way we now dispose of waste, and sheds are run down, so the whole area has been redesigned with the approval of residents.”
Other community improvements will be taking place in Margate. This will involve installing storage facilities for mobility scooters, motorcycle shelters and a large bike shed. Consultations with residents are taking place now with plans to start work before spring.
