Subway mural completed in Murdishaw

The final brush strokes have been applied to a subway street art project in Murdishaw, by Widnes artist Gareth Arrowsmith, and locals are delighted with the results so far. Riverside, supported by Halton Borough Council, commissioned the artwork, with residents contributing ideas for the final design, in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.

The aim is to improve the shop and subway area – which has been a hotspot for antisocial behaviour – and encourage pride in the neighbourhood. Riverside contributed £5,000 towards the project, which forms part of wider regeneration works in the surrounding subway location, to be carried out by Halton Borough Council, as well as new homes planned by Liverpool Housing Trust. Lorna Cotterill, Riverside’s Community

Engagement Officer, said: “Lots of people are delighted with the artwork, and it seems to be having the desired effect of encouraging a sense of pride in the neighbourhood.”
