Streetvibe youth project for Beaumanor Estate in Leicester has been a Friday night fixture since July 2015. The weekly meets include youth bus sessions and activity trips.

Riverside community engagement manager Rupa Chandarana says: “Streetvibe helps young people build trusting relationships with each other and youth workers. We’ve found that engaged young people are less likely to take part in anti-social behaviour.”

Streetvibe manager Brian Quinn says: “Young tenants from the estate were cautious of the project, but now are regularly participating in activities, and planning what they would like to do and where. All of the activities that are delivered during the Streetvibe sessions are designed to educate the young people so they can make informed choices in their everyday lives.”

Just before Christmas, Streetvibe took young people from Beaumanor to see their first live game of football. With free tickets from Leicester City Football Club for the under 21’s game against PSV Eindhoven, a group of six young tenants attended the match at the King Power Stadium. A young tenant said: ‘I’ve never been to a game before, but I would like to again. Thanks for taking us.’ Youngesters have also enjoyed a trip to LaserForce.

This project is funded by the Riverside Foundation, an independent charity that exists to support charitable activity in the communities where Riverside operates.  Fundraising manager Lisa Connor said: “Our charity exists to support valuable community based initiatives like this and we’re looking forward to hearing more about the great youth engagement work being delivered through this project.”
