Riverside welcomed MP Liz McInnes to showcase the conversion of two long-term empty properties on the Langley estate.
The properties, on Rowrah Crescent, had been empty for over 14 years and were developed as part of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council’s Empty Homes Strategy. The buildings have been converted into four one-bedroom apartments for affordable rent, to help tenants who want to downsize, freeing up larger homes for family use.
Divisional Director Steve Ward said: “It’s great to be able to bring back into use empty properties on the estate and provide much-needed homes for the community.”
Funding was received from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), and representatives from the HCA, Rochdale MBC, Rochdale Housing Initiative, and the consultant and contractors attended to show Ms McInnes around the properties. She said: “I was delighted to see the finished development at Rowrah Crescent. Bringing empty properties back into use and providing affordable homes is a vital step in maintaining a vibrant community in Heywood and Middleton.”
