Affordable Warmth Officer, Andrea Wood helps people in our communities throughout Hull, Northumberland, Tyne, Tees and Wear, and Manchester

Andrea Wood Affordable Warmth OfficerWe are committed to managing homes which are cost efficient to run. Helping our customers operate their heating systems can have a big impact on reducing energy bills and fuel debt. We offer a tailored, individual service and promote affordable warmth solutions for all of our tenants, providing extra help for those who need it.

Andrea said “We do a great deal to transform lives by helping our residents become more prosperous, improving our homes so that they are decent, modern and warm. My role is to work closely with our asset management, community engagement and development teams to ensure that all of our customers, especially those most vulnerable to fuel poverty, are able to achieve and maintain healthy and comfortable temperatures at home, at a cost they can afford, not only during the colder months but throughout the year”.

Having less money to spend on fuel bills and living in a cold home can impact on people’s lives in many ways. Damp and condensation can aggravate existing health problems. And fuel poverty can contribute to mental health issues and social isolation, with some customers having to make a stark choice between eating or heating.

Since April, Andrea has worked closely with 114 customers, achieving savings on utility bills by providing practical energy saving advice, applying for trust funds grants, helping people switch tariff or claim warm home discounts resulting in savings for customers of over £17,000.

A team of seven Affordable Warmth Officers across Riverside have helped tenants save a total of over £120,000 on their bills since April this year.
