Farne Primary School sets up wildlife sanctuary

Riverside have sponsored Farne Primary school to help them set up a green space wildlife regeneration project on their school field with a donation of £500.

Riverside have been working alongside Newcastle City Council and Keepmoat Homes to deliver a wide range of modern homes to local people from 2 and 3 bedroom houses, to 2 bedroom bungalows on a site opposite Farne Primary School, near Etal Lane.

There is a significant number of units being made available for shared ownership sale to help provide greater options on the property market. There will be a wider site of 254 units that will be for market sale by Keepmoat Homes themselves.

During the summer term some of the green space on the school field at Farne Primary will be sectioned off to turn into a wildlife sanctuary.  This will include tree planting and a wildlife meadow to attract and support habitats.

Some of the parents will also volunteer for this project and help build the garden with pupils from the School Council.

Lee Bailey, Riverside’s Community Engagement Team Leader said “We are delighted to be able to support this wildlife project and hope that the project will encourage the pupils to look after their community and give them some insight into local wildlife.  We look forward to seeing the finished sanctuary.”

Lee Gallon from Farne Primary said “We are grateful to Riverside for supporting us in helping this project get off the ground.  We are hoping that the wildlife sanctuary will increase our pupils’ interest and knowledge of local wildlife and help to restore local habitats.
