Riverside teamed up recently with partners Building Futures East (BFE) and Evolve to give a helping hand to local tenants in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne to clean up their estate and make their area is a nicer and safer place to live.
Riverside contacted Building Futures East to support this project on a volunteer basis to help tidy up the estate at with a Volunteering Day of Action in Walker and show the local residents how to keep on top of their outdoor spaces.
The staff from Riverside and Evolve helped BFE’s gardening team with the clearance of debris, litter and weeds from hard-standing areas such as paths, walkways, pavements and driveways to transform the estate into a tidier place to live. Tenants were also offered the chance to get rid of bulky items from their gardens free of charge, with the provision of a free skip for the day.
Lee Bailey from Riverside said “this is a great example of partnership working. Everyone worked really hard on the day and hopefully now that the area is a lot tidier, our tenants will be able to keep on top of it themselves.”
Le added “Many thanks to the gardening team at BFE, and the staff at Riverside and Evolve for their hard work and time donated today”.
Claire Brown from BFE said “events like these help residents to realise how keeping on top of small things like weeding and litter on a frequent basis can make their area a much more pleasant place to live and we hope that today’s Action Day will be the start of something positive for the outdoor spaces of Walker”.
