Garden competition winners honoured

Riverside honoured gardening enthusiasts at a celebration in York.

Ray and Sue Hogben from Helvellyn Close, North Bransholme, won the Best Back Garden category, while Roy Barmby from Crigglestone won first prize for his front garden.

Maureen Cornthwaite from Millbeck Gardens won the Best Communal Garden category for her efforts at Millbeck Close and Hameed Haykal from Heaton in Newcastle upon Tyne won first place for his colourful planters.

All entrants were judged by Board Member, Bill Barkworth and Community Engagement Team Leader Lee Bailey.

Matthew Biggs, a broadcaster and panellist on BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time, spoke to tenants and residents about the benefits of gardening.
