Riverside has paid tribute to more than 100 enthusiastic gardeners who made a difference to their communities and entered our annual garden competition.
Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Steven Layden, presented finalists with trophies and prizes at Morton Community Centre, where more than 70 guests gathered for the awards ceremony in August.
The stunning flower displays for the event were created and supplied by Carlisle Floral Art Group. The theme of this year’s event was wild flowers, especially the poppy, in keeping with commemorations of the First World War.
Bob Jones, from the RSPB, spoke about how to plant to encourage wildlife gardens and all the guests were given poppy seeds to take away with them. The awards event was sponsored by Lovell, ISS Landscaping, Keepmoat, and Riverside’s Tenants and Residents Federation.
