Riverside supports those hit by slump in employment

Riverside’s Employment and Training team, based in Merseyside and Halton, is urging tenants to sign up to a local job club, in a bid to get more people into jobs and training.

Merseyside is one the highest areas of unemployment in the country. Seasonal work contracts that finished in December make January and February difficult months for those who have completed temporary work over the Christmas period.

Claire BlandClaire Bland is team leader for employment and training in Merseyside and Halton, she said:

“We run weekly job clubs across Liverpool in lots of neighbourhoods, where we provide one-to-one support for those looking to secure employment, upskill or gain more permanent full-time work. We help people draft CVs, guide them towards local vacancies and provide mock interviews to prepare them for the real thing.”

The Employment and Training team has links with many Merseyside and Halton businesses with vacancies to fill in the care, cleaning, labouring and construction sectors.

Claire added: “Since we started our service in 2010 we’ve seen almost 2,000 people looking for information, advice and guidance on employment and training. And 556 people have got a job as a result of their support from us.”
